Roma returned to the field after the Covid19 stoppage, in the surreal atmosphere of an empty stadium, with only a few present. A victory of measure that comes only in the second half thanks to Edin Dzeko’s magic, the undisputed leader and champion of this team. Two goals thanks also to an assist “a la Totti” by Pellegrini and a lob by Cristante, finished on Edin’s feet which he converts like a champion.
But Roma risked not winning this game, if not losing, against former Roma coach Claudio Ranieri. Fonseca risked too much with the initial line-up, too many non-regulars were fielded, and that was clearly seen after with the 5 changes made in the second half. Diawara looked slow and clumsy, Ibanez a bit raw, Mikhitaryan still in flashes and with Pastore who is a phenomenon with the feet but only lasts 10 min.
So many mistakes and little substance. Then luckily the coach understood and put players of greater quality and experience, including a lively Zappacosta on his return after the serious injury. In the end all is well what ends well, Dzeko gives Roma the 3 points that serve to keep Napoli and Milan at bay, in spite of the decisions of the Var. While Veretout’s goal is to be disallowed due to the new (absurd) rule, at the Inter game an even more evident episode is not sanctioned. Let’s see now, we go to Milan to pay a visit to AC Milan, it will be a tough test. Though, with Edin like this and the second half formation anything is possible. Forza Roma!
