The shameful 7-1 still in my head. Vendetta. This was a revenge due, the players had to reedem themselves and so they did. They put 4 past Fiorentina on their own ground.
A game that marked the technical gap between the two sides, with Lorenzo Pellegrini – Pilgrims in english – author of some fabulous passes and scoring a surgical goal. Zaniolo thorn in the side, Dzeko warrior, Kolarov sniper. Smalling and Mancini showing how good their work in pair.
In short, Roma played some overwhelming football when pushing forward, as seen especially in the final part of the match with the two goals that secured the result. But I didn’t like everything on the night. And it seems strange to say that after a victory that seems so crystal clear.
Fiorentina started better, Roma with the handbrake on. We didn’t get near their keeper until the 20th min, yet scoring a goal. Two minutes later, doubled the advantage with a deadly free kick. Two shots, two goals. Cynical. Good.
Two nil up but suddenly we lost balance and concentration. Fiorentina looked flat and disorientated but instead of looking for the killer we allowed them back in the game. Too many mistakes, silly passes and smudges, leaving our penalty area exposed, errors that could have cost us dearly.
And in fact, the Viola went on to score for a trivial misunderstanding in defense. All stopped waiting for the ref to call the offside. Wrong. You must always keep playing, regardless.
More silly is chasing and commit some dangerous fouls when you lead 4-1 with a yellow card and with only a few minutes left to play. The red card escape. Fonseca must emphasize the importance of managing certain situations, no need to take risks like that. Players must control better these type of situations.
Roma certainly got a well deserved win, showing great unity and resilience but we were also cynical to score on the first two opportunities while Fiorentina did not. Not really Roma’s style. Hope to see more of this.
The important thing now is that we are in 4th place, not far from the top. A great Christmas present. Now, sit back and relax. Happy Christmas. Enjoy the break. Torino next in the year to come. Best wishes to you all. Forza Roma.
