Roma are still looking for a right winger. We will know soon if the Mahrez saga will come to an end. We hope not on 31st August, right at the end of the transfer market. The squad must be completed sooner. We believe Roma’s pursue of the Algerian is still alive, always at the top of Monchi’s list. Of course, the asking fee is definitely remarkable or the negotiations would have closed a long time ago. Yet, no one has definitely closed the door, and that’s what makes the deal still alive.
The latest name for the right flank is Patrick Schick. Sampdoria boss Massimo Ferrero said that Roma wants the player and looks closer to sign him above competitors. We talk about €38m, which is more expensive than what Juve were ready to pay before offloading him for “medical test failure”. So, now Roma would invest the same amount allocated for Mahrez. Schick looks a good prospect, but not really a right winger, more like a centre forward. That’s another one like Dzeko, same as Defrel. Would Schick be another one adapted like Defrel for the right-wing? From a technical point of view it doesn’t make sense. So, would not it be better to sign a right-winger instead? That’s why the Mahrez deal is perhaps still open, as first choice.
Then maybe Monchi will refute us and take Schick or maybe someone else, but this is the scenario at the moment. As far as we are concerned, and without counting in anyone’s pocket, we would have preferred Mahrez-Schick or Berardi-Schick. Defrel might be good and useful but in comparison we would have spent €22m in a different way. Then there is clearly the story of the central defender; we expect a strong player to fortify that defensive department that at this time does not seem so perfect. We will wait and hope. Anyway, anyhow, always Forza Roma!
